I hate to use the word “sin” – not because it is not the proper word for the topic at hand but because the word sin has become so overused and misused that it carries none of the power it should carry, it has essentially been devalued of all meaning. But, this is the word which most people use to describe the issue of evil as committed by humankind, and so we will retain it – but we must redefine it. We must wash away our old biases about what sin is and why it matters and look afresh at what the Scriptures teach us about it. I offer this challenge especially to those outside of the Christian faith, who may blanch at the mere mention of “sin” – due to its many illegitimate and prudish connotations.

More to come…
